Five young friends piled upChildren are a vital part of the ministry at Hibben. Our Children's Ministry includes a number of programs for all children starting as infants and going through the 6th grade. We strive to plan activities for children which will create a firm foundation on which they can build a deep and lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.  We incorporate Bible study, crafts, music, fellowship, and service to create a vibrant and welcoming place for all children.

This page contains current information about Children's Ministry at Hibben including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Children's Choir, Children's Church, special events and any notices to parents.

So jump in to the fun!  Come to Sunday School or join us for one of our special events.  For more information, please contact Elizabeth Connell, Hibben's Director of Youth & Children's Ministry, at (843) 884-9761 or via our Contacts page email.

2013 Vacation Bible School

This summer, you GOTTA MOVE! 2013 Vacation Bible School at gotta-move-vert_1.jpgHibben promises to be an energetic, fun, and meaningful time. All kids ages 3-years – rising 4th grade are invited, June 16-19. We’ll gather from 2-5pm on 6/16 and from 9am-noon on the other days. Our time will be packed with great music, dancing, crafts, games, service projects, and learning about how we can keep in step with the Holy Spirit.  Your kids will meet Biblical heros like Abraham, Jacob, and Moses, and learn how sweet the reward is when we follow God, even when we don't know where God is leading.  VBS is free to all who wish to participate.  Registration is easy!  Just complete the forms below and return them to Hibben's office, or complete information can also be e-mailed to Elizabeth Connell  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Educational Standards

In the spring of 2012, a group of dedicated volunteers, many of them public educators or Sunday School teachers, gathered to set about the process of creating Educational Standards for Christian Education at Hibben UMC. The resulting document will serve as a "roadmap" in the planning of activities, studies, and small groups for children ages birth - 18 years. At each age level, we strove to answer the question, "What does discipleship look like at the age?" Our prayer is that the standards contained in this document will be an encouragement to families as they make Christian Education a priority, and that it will serve to challenge teachers and volunteers as they interact with students. Want to know what your child will be learning at every age when they attend Hibben's children and youth activities? Check out the following PDF document, and prepare to join us on an amazing journey!

Sunday School

Children's Sunday School classes are offered for children of all ages beginning with infants and going through the 6th grade. Hibben uses a Cokesbury curriculum series that offers age-appropriate resources and compliments the Methodist calendar. The various Sunday classes along with their location are listed in the right column of this page.

Get to know our wonderful teachers!  The 2012-2013 Sunday School year promises to be a blessed time, thanks in large part to our dedicated staff of wonderful Sunday School volunteers.  Their contact information can be found under Contacts on the Top Menu, and we encourage you to contact them with any questions or ideas you may have.  All Sunday School teachers are Safe Sanctuary certified.

Children's Church

We've taken great strides to make Children's Church a place where children ages 3 - 3rd grade can feel alive and excited to worship on Sunday mornings.  Music, crafts, drama, and stories are used to help children worship God.  Children's Church is lead by Safe Sanctuary certified adults.  Every Sunday, with the exception of Christmas Sunday and Easter Sunday, the children in attendance at the 10:30 service and at The Well (10:45) are invited to go to Children's Church. They return from Children's Church to their families just prior to the Benediction.

Nursery

We are excited to announce that Hibben now has two nurseries on Sunday mornings: one for infants and another for toddlers.  We know that the addition of a second nursery will insure that all children receive the attention, care, and love they deserve.  In addition, a nursery is provided for every church sponsored event and most children's events.  Our staff of loving adult care givers are all CPR trained for infants. They are assisted by responsible adults and youth volunteers who are Safe Sanctuary certified.  Pagers are available to parents using the nursery in case they need to be contacted during the worship service. Each child is signed in and released only to their parents or guardian.

Club 56

Designed especially for 5th and 6th graders, Club 56 has resumed for the 2012-2013 school year!  We meet in the Christian Life and Learning Center (CLLC) from 3:30 - 5:00pm on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month for a time of fun, fellowship, learning, and laughter.  In addition to our regularly scheduled meetings, we participate in service projects and periodic off-site fellowship events (like beach day, picnic in the park, Midnight Madness, etc.).  Contact Elizabeth Connell for more information at (843)884-9761 or via our Contacts page e-mail.  Join in the fun!

Confirmation Class

confirm_retreat_2004.jpg

This class is held annually to help young persons, ages 12 (6th grade) and over, to understand and affirm their faith. The Hibben faith community takes seriously our Baptismal promise to “nurture one another in the Christian faith.” We prayerfully offer our best through Sunday School, Confirmation, and for the 7th-12th graders, United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF).

At Hibben, Confirmation is a three-year process – During the spring for three years (typically 6th, 7th and 8th grades), we ask your child to commit to attending six sessions each year. These classes will be held for 1.5 hours on Sunday afternoons - before UMYF.

Why three years?
Over the years we have discovered that the students don’t fully understand their confirmation commitment in the 6th grade. This three year process will allow the kids to grow and mature emotionally and spiritually over the course of Confirmation. Instead of a “one year and done” mindset, we are hoping to create the understanding that discipleship is a lifelong process.

Please know that our expectation is that your child will also be participating in Sunday School, which is held on Sunday mornings from 9:15 - 10:15am. It is such an important part of the process of becoming a lifelong disciple of Christ. We are also happy to help you find an adult class that suits you. If your children see you making Sunday School and Worship a priority, they will better understand its importance in their lives.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jennifer Roberts at 270-1161 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We look forward to getting to know your child through the confirmation process, and pray that this time will be an opportunity for spiritual growth for your entire family.
